GENERAL FUNCTION
Provides direct supervision of a group of young children (ages 3 months – 12 years old) in a group or individual setting. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: Honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Essential Duties/Functions
- Supervises a group of children in a preschool setting
- Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children
- Provides basic needs for children
- Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
- Manage daily activities including lessons, play, breaks and snacks
- Maintain a clean and tidy room
- Collaborate with Kids Club Coordinator to implement lesson plans
- Always provide appropriate supervision for children
- Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling
- Cleaning interactive areas throughout the day
- Observing children and taking notes of any problematic behavior
- Attends staff meetings and trainings
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions
- Be sensitive to each child’s needs and provide guidance toward positive human development
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
- Instruct children in a variety of activities with enthusiasm
- Be on time for work and meetings
- Attend all general and site staff meetings and training sessions and give input. Be open to criticism, suggestions and training from other staff
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certifications: CPR, Basic First Aid
- Completion of the following trainings: Child Abuse Sexual Prevention, Safe Lifting, School Aged Child, Appropriate Touch, Harassment Prevention and First Aid
- At least 18 years of age.
- Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of students, parents and caregivers, and other Y staff and volunteers
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings
Education/Training
- High School Diploma / GED Equivalent
- Able to be CPR/AED, First Aid trained (Free training provided by YMCA)
- TB clearance required
Experience
- Experience working with children in a childcare setting of at least one year preferred
